No mass ‘back-to-school’ crowd at Sibu express boat terminal, observes SRB

SIBU: There is no surge in passenger volume at Sibu Express Boat Terminal ahead of the reopening of more classes in schools tomorrow.

According to Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) Sibu assistant controller (Region II) Hatta Morshidi, the agency has not received any application for extra boat trips from the operators.

Ministry of Education had announced that students of Form 1 to 4, Remove Class, as well as pupils of Year 5 and 6, would return to school tomorrow; while Year 1 to 4 classes would recommence this July 22.

Meanwhile, the Sibu Express Boat Terminal handled 1,933 passengers last Sunday, comprising 900 arrivals and 1,033 departures.

At the nearby RC Pontoon Wharf, 298 passengers were recorded on the same day – 132 were arrivals and 166 were departures.

The wharf is the berthing spot for express boats plying the downriver routes passing Passin, Daro, Bruit, Igan and Mupong.

On the other hand, express boats servicing the upper reaches of Rajang River are docked at the main terminal.
