KUCHING, Nov 13: A Sarawak-owned airline will be ready within three months pending the license from the Ministry of Transport (MOT), says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

"We have conducted a study (on the airline company), and the result has indicated that it can be done. What's left is to wait for MOT's approval for the license," he told a press conference after officiating at the Sarawakku Sayang Programme held at Telaga Air Esplanade today.

He further clarified that the boutique airline would be set up as a commercial wing under Hornbill Skyways.

"The airline is for us to bring in more tourists. So the operation is more or less finalised, and we are just waiting for the license," he added.

Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari told guests that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government would set up a State-owned airline company in Sarawak.

"InsyaAllah, let us pray that this wish will come true within three months and the new airline we be able to bring in tourists to Sarawak. If I promise (it), I will fulfil it", he pointed out.

Amongst those present were Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability-cum-Demak Laut assemblyman Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Santubong incumbent Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, GPS candidate for P193 Santubong Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, Pantai Damai assembly Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan and Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Dr Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
