SARIKEI: The Sarawak Ministry of Transport (MOTS) is set to expand the construction of traffic games parks to all divisions in Sarawak under the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), as part of efforts to strengthen road safety education at the school level.
The Minister of Transport, who is also the President of the Sarawak Road Safety Council (MKJR), Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, said that currently, there are only six traffic games parks in the state — located in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri.
"For RMK-13, we will begin plans to build traffic parks in other divisions that do not yet have them, as the Sarawak Traffic Games program will involve students across the whole of Sarawak.
"Since this is a long-term program, we need to enhance our traffic games parks — we must include all traffic signs and signals similar to those on actual roads so that students participating in the Sarawak Traffic Games can experience a realistic simulation, just like on the real roads used daily," he said.
Lee Kim Shin made these remarks during a media interview after officiating the Sarawak Traffic Games - Sarikei 2025 program at the Sarikei Traffic Games Park today.
He said the Sarawak Traffic Games is an educational simulation program aimed at instilling caution and civic responsibility among students from a young age.
"My ministry, along with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the police, and other agencies, will establish a plan that can be applied throughout Sarawak in the development of these traffic parks.
"The Sarawak Traffic Games program is intended to simulate real road conditions that we encounter daily.
"This is also a road safety education program," he added.
