Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the RM4.5 million replacement project, completed in August, addressed longstanding concerns over the airport’s ageing infrastructure.
“These boarding bridges are essential for passenger convenience and safety. The replacement ensures smooth boarding operations and eliminates the reliability issues we experienced with the older units,” he said during an inspection tour of the airport this morning.

The old units were replaced following frequent breakdowns that led to passenger complaints.
“The escalator replacement project cost RM840,000 and was completed a month ago. All units have passed safety inspections by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and are now in service,” Lee explained.
“Both of these projects are very important to ensure that the facilities at the airport are always in good condition and safe to use.”
Meanwhile, Lee said that work to upgrade four sets of public toilets at the airport is also underway and is expected to be completed by the end of November.
“I ask the public to be patient because the work to upgrade the public toilets will take some time. In the meantime, users can still use the toilets on the upper floor,” he said.
He added that when all facility upgrades are completed, they will significantly enhance Miri Airport’s image and passenger comfort.
“We are also waiting for the tender process for the project to upgrade and expand the Miri Airport terminal which is expected to begin next year. When completed, this airport will be upgraded to an international airport,” he explained.
Also present during the visit was Miri Airport Manager, Mohd Jauhari Abdullah.
