SARAWAK TO LEARN FROM SINGAPORE'S TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

KUCHING, 1 Nov - Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin recently led a delegation from the ministry on an official visit to Singapore with an aim to study and learn from the republic's experiences in planning, managing and operating their land transport system.

Lee was accompanied by the ministry's permanent secretary Dato Ir Alice Jawan and other senior officers during the visit which took place from Oct 31 to Nov 1.

The delegation met up with Singapore's Senior Minister of State for National Development and Foreign Affairs Sim Ann, and Minister of Transport S. Iswaran.

"The courtesy call provides an avenue to foster closer collaboration between Sarawak and Singapore, particularly in the transport sector."

"Singapore, with its advanced public transportation system will become the reference point for Sarawak, as we are developing our own ART (autonomous rail transit) public transportation system," said a press release from the ministry.

Also included in the itinerary was a visit to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, Public Transport Council (PTC) and SMRT Corpoation Ltd.

"The visit is important and of great value to the Ministry of Transport Sarawak as the ministry is in the process of developing Sarawak's public transportation system," the press release added.
