SIBU, Nov 8: Good news for residents here. AirAsia will commence its first ever Sibu-Singapore-Sibu sector on Dec 16. There will be four flights both ways weekly. The flights from Singapore to Sibu are on Monday, 1600-1745; Wednesday, 1600-1745; Friday, 1600-1745; and Sunday, 1600-1745. For Sibu to Singapore, the flights are on Monday, 1340-1520; Wednesday, 1340-1520; Friday, 1340-1520; and Sunday, 1340-1520. "This piece of good news was announced by Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS). This is the first ever international flight to Singapore (from Sibu). Booking can be done now", said Bukit Assek assemblyman, Joseph Chieng at a press conference today. With this development, he said it will be more convenient, and cost and time saving to fly to Singapore than what has being in practised currently. "Presently there are three ways for people here to go Singapore. They can either take a Sibu-Johor flight then travel over land to Singapore which is very troublesome. The other way is from Sibu to Kuching but due to the flight schedule, one has to stay overnight in Kuching before taking a connecting flight to Singapore. The third way is to fly from here to Kuala Lumpur then take a connecting flight to Singapore which can be very costly", said Chieng. These new flights, he said, will give the local economy a major boost while more international events could also be organised, thus also promoting local tourism. |
