KUCHING (Jan 19): Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad has clarified that the smoke seen on the tarmac of Kuching International Airport (KIA) yesterday was merely fogging for mosquito control.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad senior airports manager Mohd Nadzim Hashim stressed that the briefly smoky conditions, including in the airport’s departure hall, were nothing to worry about.

“Our routine fogging works on going during that time,” he said via WhatsApp when contacted today.

Passengers at the airport were somewhat concerned when the smoke triggered alarms in the departure hall yesterday evening.

Netizen too were abuzz when a 46-second video on the smoky situation was reshared on social media platforms today.

In the video originally posted by k zharif on TikTok yesterday, anxious passengers can be seen trying to figure out what was causing the smoke on the tarmac.

The airport’s smoke alarms could also be heard.

Smoke could also be seen entering the airport’s departure hall.
