KUCHING (Feb 7): AirAsia is suspending direct flights between Kuching and Penang effective March 1 this year due to operational reasons.

The airline in a statement today said that affected guests have been contacted by email and notified that their flights have been moved to the best available ‘FlyThru’ options between the two destinations with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur (KLIA2) so as to avoid any disruption to their travel plans.

It added that alternatively, guests may also choose from three service recovery options as outlined in the email, namely free change of flights, credit account or refund.

“Affected guests are entitled to a one-time flight change to a new travel date of their preference within 30 days from the original scheduled departure date on the same route without any additional costs and subject to seat availability.

“Guests can perform the flight change by clicking on the ‘Free Change Flight’ button in the notification email or via ‘Manage my booking’ feature on the AirAsia Super App or website,” it said.

AirAsia currently has nine daily flights between Kuching and Kuala Lumpur and seven between Kuala Lumpur and Penang for guests to choose from to suit their travel plans.

Guests who do not wish to proceed with their trips may also opt for a Credit Account to the value of their booking that is valid for 730 days (or two years) from the date of issuance.

“The Credit Account can be used to purchase future flights and add-ons with AirAsia,” the statement said.

The airline said that guests who opt for a refund may chat with AVA via the AirAsia Super App or website, and follow the prompts accordingly.

“Guests who booked their flights through a third-party agent may contact their respective travel agents for further assistance.

“All guests are recommended to download the AirAsia Super App from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery for a seamless travel experience with AirAsia,” it said.
