Road users are urged to be responsible drivers and avoid driving while under the influence of alcohol.
In giving the reminder, Bintulu Resident Nyurak Keti said this was for everyone’s safety especially with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration.
“Prioritise safety when driving because not only will we be endangering ourselves (by driving under the influence) but other road users as well,” he said during a recent Drug and Substance Abuse (MIDS) awareness campaign, held in conjunction with Gawai Dayak, at KM2 of Jalan Tatau-Selangau.
Nyurak said the objective of the campaign is to create greater awareness on the importance of adhering to traffic rules and the importance of road safety.
The campaign was held by Bintulu Division Road Safety Council and Tatau District MIDS One Stop Committee.
Meanwhile, he advised parents to monitor their children’s activities and behaviour to prevent their involvement in drug-related activities.
He said it was important for parents to seek help from relevant authorities should their children become involved in drugs, so that proper action could be taken.
“Teenagers should not get involved with drugs. This could cause them to drop out of school or get involved in other social problems.”
