MIRI: The programmes lined up in conjunction with the 60th Sarawak Merdeka celebration seek to convey the initiatives taken by the state towards achieving unity, harmony, prosperity and sustainable development.
In stating this, Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin says the events are a gentle reminder to the younger generation of the sacrifices by Sarawak’s former leaders who had fought for the prosperity, development and harmony enjoyed by Sarawakians today.
“This legacy should be appreciated, defended and continued by every layer of society in this land, and that it is our responsibility to work towards creating a better Sarawak,” he said in his speech in welcoming the ‘Kembara Merdeka Limbang’ participants at Sarawak Islamic Complex, here on Monday.
The convoy, led by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, comprised 60 bikers from five motorcycle clubs.
The participating clubs are Permaisuri Riders Miri Group, Miri Riders Motor Club, Brother Bikers Miri Club, MYY Maxi Scooter Motor Club, and Santai Bikers Team Bekenu.
Meanwhile, the Kembara Merdeka Miri would begin their journey on June 4, travelling to several locations across Miri District, arriving in Subis on June 5, Beluru and Telang Usan on June 6, and Marudi on June 7.
The convoy also consists of vehicles from the traffic police, Resident’s Office, district office, and Sarawak Public Communications Unit.
Among the places of interest that they would visit include Sepupok Niah Waterfront, Marudi Waterfront and Loagan Bunut National Park.
