KUCHING (July 10): Issues concerning Sarawak security, especially along the border, in view of Indonesia moving its capital to Kalimantan, remain a core focus for the Malaysian Third Infantry Brigade.

According to Commander Brigadier-General Mohd Sauffi Omar, this is in line with the concerns raised by the Yang di-Pertua Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar over the security issues and how the relocation of the Indonesian capital to Nusantara might indirectly affect Sarawak.

“Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi takes security issues in Sarawak very seriously, especially in view of the plan to move the Indonesian capital to Nusantara, and how it could have an indirect effect on Sarawak.

“Among other things, there are positive factors in terms of economy, development and so on, benefiting Sarawak, (and) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi hopes that the security aspects would be given attention after the relocation (of Indonesian capital) has taken place,” he said, as cited in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.

Mohd Sauffi had told this to the media after paying a courtesy call on Wan Junaidi at the Astana yesterday.

It was Mohd Sauffi’s first meeting with Wan Junaidi since the former’s appointment as the 40th Commander of the Third Infantry Brigade on May 31 this year.

Wan Junaidi’s wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi and Mohd Sauffi’s wife Dayang Satiah Awang Siee were also present.
