KUCHING (Aug 11): AirBorneo Airways (AirBorneo) has joined the government-backed air travel subsidy initiative, FLYsiswa to help ease the cost of domestic air travel for eligible Malaysian students.
The state-owned airline in a press release said its participation in the programme, spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT), would support higher education students travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Under FLYsiswa, eligible students will receive a RM400 digital voucher to subsidise domestic economy flight tickets.
AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Aminuddin said the cost of air travel should not become an obstacle for students studying away from their families.
“Education requires focus, dedication, and peace of mind.
“For many young Malaysians studying away from home, particularly between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, the cost of flight tickets should never be an obstacle to spending quality time with family,” he said.
He said AirBorneo’s participation reflected its commitment to community welfare.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of students on board our flights, ensuring they enjoy seamless, reliable, and affordable travel home.
“It is our sincere hope that this initiative significantly lightens the financial load on students and their families, allowing them to focus fully on their academic pursuits while staying closely connected to home,” he said.
Eligible Malaysian students enrolled in public higher education institutions can check their eligibility through the MOT’s official portal at subsidiudara.mot.gov.my and redeem the RM400 digital voucher when booking flights through AirBorneo’s website or mobile application.
For AirBorneo flights, the voucher redemption period runs from Aug 11 to Nov 30, 2026, while bookings are valid for travel dates up to Dec 31, 2026.
The airline is also offering additional student perks for FLYsiswa bookings, including enhanced baggage allowance, complimentary or discounted date-change options, and access to key domestic destinations and regional hubs across Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
