Lee said the allocation would cover the expansion of the airport terminal as well as the construction of a multi-storey car park and aerobridges.

“The project is currently undergoing the tender process, and construction is expected to begin early next year,” he said when presenting Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocations here.

The Senadin assemblyman said the airport expansion was among several major infrastructure and development projects expected to strengthen Miri’s growth over the next five years.

He cited the RM200 million Miri Port development project, which involves deepening the river mouth to facilitate its transformation into a deep-sea port, as another key initiative.

Plans are also underway to develop Kuala Baram as an industrial area, including a proposed 10,000-hectare Free Economic Zone aimed at attracting foreign investment and creating employment and business opportunities.

Lee also highlighted the RM3.8 billion Miri-Marudi-Mulu road project, which is expected to significantly shorten travel time between Miri and Marudi upon completion.

Other developments include Kenyalang Smart City project near Curtin Malaysia University, where a convention centre capable of accommodating between 3,000 and 4,000 people has been completed.

“We may also have a water theme park, which will be the largest in Sarawak. I have seen the plan and the project will commence soon,” he said, also disclosing plans to establish Fudan University in Senadin.

“We hope that within the next five years, all these projects will have been completed. They will help elevate Miri into a more advanced and prosperous city,” said Lee.

At the same event, Lee presented RM582,600 in MRP allocations to 107 organisations in the Senadin constituency, saying the funds were distributed according to the organisation’s respective needs and community activities.

The ceremony also saw a RM13,500 allocation from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) presented to Persatuan Penganut Agama Buddha Shui Kou.
